In this week’s People On The Grid, we discuss food waste with Sofie Amalie Damkjær Østensgård from WeFood. WeFood is located in Denmark, and it is the first food surplus supermarket there. It was opened through an NGO Charity, that saw the high amounts of food waste in the country as a problem that could be fixed.
This initiative was started in the hopes of reducing the 700,000 tons of food waste Denmark produces every year. Not only is the initiative reducing food waste, through selling it at 30 – 50% cheaper than regular markets, it is also more available to lower-income families or anyone that is interested in being conscious about their food waste.
